If it’s true… holy casting coup, Batman!
Hollywood insider and scooper Jeff Sneider reports that a fan-favorite Star Trek actor is RUMORED to portray Batman in the highly anticipated DC Universe's (DCU) Elseworlds Dynamic Duo animated movie, which focuses on the various Robin characters who, at one time or another, served as the Dark Knight’s sidekick. And, if Sneider turns out to be right, Chris Pine (per ComicBook.com) will be the one voicing the Gotham detective whose secret identity is shrouded by his cape and cowl.
Pine portrayed Captain James T. Kirk in all three of the Kelvin Timeline Star Trek films from 2009 until 2016, and, according to Sneider, the Dynamic Duo cast will also feature Mason Thames as Dick Grayson. Thames is best known for his outstanding contributions to the Blumhouse Black Phone horror series and the 2025 version of How to Train Your Dragon.
Dick Grayson is the original Robin, and he later grew up to take on the superhero moniker of Nightwing in adulthood. Once the Boy Wonder left the Batman to become his own hero, the Dark Knight trained teenager Jason Todd to become his new partner in crime. And Logan Kim, who shined in the most recent Ghostbusters sequels (Afterlife, Frozen Empire) is rumored to voice the second Robin, the aforementioned Todd.
Meanwhile, Blach-ish star Marsai Martin is rumored to be the voice of Barbara Gordon in Dynamic Duo. Gordon is not only the daughter of Gotham’s famed police commissioner, but she also started her crime-fighting career as Batgirl. However, after being horribly injured by the Joker in author Alan Moore’s must-read The Killing Joke, Gordon took on the identity of Oracle.
In addition to my love for Star Trek, I’m a huge Batman fan, too! And I can’t believe it’s been nearly two years since James Gunn announced the Dynamic Duo animated movie was officially happening. Gunn, the DCU’s co-chairman along with Peter Safran, wrote on X, formerly Twitter, back in October 2024:
“Over the moon excited to announce the newest DC Studios/Warner Bros Pictures Animation greenlit film for theaters, DYNAMIC DUO, the story of Robin… or should I say, Robins, as in Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. The first feature film from the visionary Swaybox, a mix of animation, puppetry, and CGI, a script from the wonderfully talented Matt Aldrich, produced with our partners at Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho. This is something special.”
I’d love for Chris Pine to voice the Batman in Dynamic Duo, but please remember, this is only a RUMOR at the time of this writing.
