What Year One might look like

If Star Trek: Year One goes ahead, Christina Chong’s framing suggests a series less about Christopher Pike’s found family and more about an early-career James Kirk feeling his way into the captain's chair.

Trekkies and critics picture a show that has the same episodic structure as Strange New Worlds but changes the tone to focus on command difficulties, political flashpoints, and the difficult journey to becoming the icon that TOS views Kirk already is.

In practical terms, this probably implies that fewer of the regulars from Strange New Worlds will be back, the bridge will have new dynamics, and the series will approach the Enterprise not as a comforting home we already know, but as a proving ground for a younger, rougher Starfleet.
