One nominee shouldn’t surprise any fans.

The Critics Choice Super Awards nominations were announced today (Wednesday, July 15), and two incredibly talented actors from Star Trek: Starfleet Academy received nods for their incomparable performances.

First, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone, Paul Giamatti was recognized for his brilliant and often over-the-top portrayal of the Starfleet Academy half-Klingon, half-Tellarite terror, Nus Braka: Best Villain in a Series, Limited Series or Made-for-TV Movie (per Variety).

While I think Giamatti should warp-speed away with the win, the Best Villain category is loaded with seven worthy nominees, most notably Peter Dinklage from Dexter: Resurrection and Antony Starr, who portrays the despicable Homelander in The Boys.

Second, Oscar-winning actress Holly Hunter secured a Critics Choice Super Awards nomination (Best Actress in a Science Fiction/Fantasy Series, Limited Series or Made-for-TV Movie) for her portrayal of Starfleet Academy’s Nahla Ake. Nahla served as both chancellor of the educational institution and captain of the USS Athena.

Last, but certainly not least, Strange New Worlds was nominated for a Critics Choice Super Award in the Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Series, Limited Series or Made-for-TV Movie category.

Now, I’ve gone on record before saying I felt season 3 of SNW was judge too harshly, and it’s wonderful to see that those voting in the initial "NomComs" window didn’t take the online criticism from so-called fans and haters into account.

Now that the nominations have been officially announced, the final voting process will take place between Monday, July 20, and Monday, July 27, with the 6th Annual Critics Choice Super Awards' winners being revealed on Thursday, Aug. 6 (per the CCA official website).
