It wouldn’t be Star Trek Day without a proper "lower decks, lower decks, lower decks" shout-out from one of the incredible actors who starred on arguably the science fiction franchise’s greatest animated series, Lower Decks.
And Jack Quaid, who played Brad Boimler during the show’s five seasons, revealed what the franchise means to him in a new video published on Creation Entertainment’s official Instagram account (below), as Star Trek celebrates the big 60.
For Quaid, the actor says that friendship is what Star Trek means most to him. The talented performer also pointed out his strong bond with fellow Lower Decks’ performer, Tawny Newsome, who played Beckett Mariner — the more combustible yin to Boimler’s level-headed yang — on the must-see animated series.
I loved that Quaid brought up his close friendship with Lower Decks' fellow star Newsome and her presence at his wedding to Claudia Doumit in April 2026, not to mention the event’s bachelor party. However, I was most excited to hear which of his celebrity parents (Dennis Quaid, Meg Ryan) called Star Trek their favorite show.
It turns out that it’s the When Harry Met Sally… (1989) sensation, Meg Ryan, who loved the show while her son was growing up. Sadly, neither Ryan nor Dennis Quaid have ever appeared on any iteration of Star Trek: talk about a missed opportunity not pairing them, as guest stars, with Jack Quaid on Lower Decks. Oh, what could have been?
