The legendary Nana Visitor, who played Major Kira Nerys on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, reflected on her time during the show, the importance of her character, and how she would have loved to work with an iconic Star Trek: Voyager actor. Visitor made the revelation in an interview with ScreenRant in which she said this is who she'd like to have teamed up with in the final frontier:

"I thought you were going to ask me a different question. If I could go back, who I'd want to interview. That would be Grace Lee Whitney. But to bring into the show… I would love to work with Kate Mulgrew. She has the whole captain command aura and presence about her, and that would be a real upheaval to the show. How would that work out? I see sparks all over the place, and with Captain Sisko. Not sure they’d get along. Those are two alphas. I think that would be really interesting."

Whitney, of course, is best known for playing Yeoman Janice Rand in season 1 of Star Trek: The Original Series, and the actress made occasional appearances thereafter to reprise the role in Gene Roddenberry's beloved science fiction universe.

DS9 first premiered in 1993 and Voyager later in 1995. Both shows ran for seven seasons, which would've offered this opportunity. Unfortunately, with Voyager being trapped in the Delta Quadrant and the problem of making a 75-year trip back to the Alpha quadrant, finding a way for the Major Kira and Captain Janeway to meet would have been quite difficult.

Although, with Admiral Janeway, not to mention Hologram Janeway, in Star Trek: Prodigy, a third season of the animated adventure might have been able to accomplish the feat of bringing these powerful women together. It's too bad the show was canceled.

Personally, I would have loved a crossover like this! As a fan of both series, imagining Kira and Janeway meeting would have been a fantastic power move, and with both series running at the same time, even an alternate universe meeting might have been a ratings juggernaut! It's a shame this never happened, although it's possible some Star Trek fan fiction writers out there had these two headstrong, independent, and intelligent women meet.

What do you think might have happened if showrunners allowed these two to join forces on screen? Would Janeway and Kira have been fast friends, or were they too much alike and might have butted heads? Share your thoughts and comments with us on the Redshirts Always Die Facebook and X pages.

Both Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager are available to stream on Paramount Plus. However, for those who don't subscribe to the service, season 4 of Voyager and season 1 of Deep Space Nine are now streaming absolutely free on Pluto TV.
