Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Lower Decks nominated for Saturn Awards

The nominees for the 52nd annual Saturn Awards have been announced, and Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Lower Decks are the only two series in the franchise to nab a nomination. Discovery was nominated for its fifth and final season for Best Science Fiction Television Series while Lower Deck was also nominated for its fifth and final season for Best Animated Television series.

Discovery is up against 3 Body Problem, Ahsoka,The Ark, Dark Matter, and Fallout while Lower Decks faces stiff competition against Batman: Caped Crusader, Gremlins: The Wild Batch, Kaiju No. 8, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and X-Men ’97. Lower Decks lost this award to The Bad Batch last year. Discovery was not nominated last year, and the award for Best Science Fiction Television Series went to Star Trek: Picard for its third and final season.

Two nominations for the Saturn Awards is the lowest number of nominations the franchise has acquired since Star Trek: Discovery began in 2017. Last year, the franchise had fifteen nominations with Picard winning four and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds winning one.

Strange New Worlds didn't receive any nominations this year as no new episodes aired in 2024. Last year, it had six nominations, winning one. So the odds are good it will be back in the spotlight next year when season three airs. So far, Star Trek: Prodigy is the only series in the franchise since it was rebooted to have not received a nomination for a Saturn Awards.

The 52nd Annual Saturn Awards will be presented live from Universal City, California on Sunday, February 2, 2025. It will be streamed exclusively on ElectricNow.TV and for the very first time on The Roku Channel!
