Will The Doctor soften his stance for SAM?

Star Trek: Voyager fans will recall how The Doctor took Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) under his caring holographic wings in the live-action series. It was one of the show’s most intriguing relationships, and The Doctor formed equally strong bonds as a mentor with the kids who stole the USS Protostar in the animated Trek, Prodigy.
It’s a shame The Doctor isn’t quite the same when he meets the new hologram cadet SAM (Kerrice Brooks) in Starfleet Academy. I think it’s hilarious that he views the four-month-old cadet as being a little too enthusiastic for her own good. Undoubtedly, their wildly different temperaments will cause friction, but that’s exactly what I’m hoping for. After all, how good would the upcoming streaming series be without any conflict to overcome?
I’m willing to wager, much like Harry Mudd might, that The Doctor and SAM’s relationship eventually becomes one of the most talked about elements of Starfleet Academy. And after those character arcs run their close, I expect the EMH will have mentored yet another comrade like he did with Seven and Prodigy’s lovable ragtag crew.
