As Captain Picard would say, "Make it so," already!
Trekkies and Whovians have wanted their two beloved science fiction franchises to crossover for years, yet it has never happened in a live-action setting. However, Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies posted a video (below) on social media yesterday (Jan. 8) featuring himself and Star Trek: The Next Generation’s own Guinan, Whoopi Goldberg. And in the footage, the two celebrities implored for the ultimate Star Trek/Doctor Who crossover to finally happen. Here’s how the Instagram post’s text reads:
“The ultimate crossover! Doctor Who & Star Trek! Make it so! (Not an actual crossover, no secret episode about to drop.) A joy to meet Whoopi, a long-time Doctor Who fan. We’ve been trying to meet for a decade, and Whoopi got us into the audience for The View, what a great team, we had the best time ❤️ thanks to @tomleonardis ❤️ @whoopigoldberg @bbcdoctorwho @startrek @theviewabc @theolivercole @disneydoctorwho @disneyplus @bbcone @bbciplayer @paramountplus @alexkurtzman @ajgoldsman1629 @cwmonfette”
After watching the video, and seeing the two sci-fi icons playfully plead for the Star Trek/Doctor Who crossover we all want to see on streaming, or, better yet, on the big-screen, it’s important to remember that the Enterprise-D’s crew and The Doctor have met before in a popular comic book: 2012’s Assimilation². The story featured the Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) teaming up with Captain Picard and company to thwart a hybrid threat in the Borg and the Cybermen. (Continued...)
