3. Reliving the worst day

The heartbreak peaks when Intendant Kira corners Jake and Jennifer during the Alliance attack on the station. In a beat that cruelly echoes Jennifer’s original death during the Borg attack, she steps between a weapon and her family — and takes the blast meant for Jake.

What makes it devastating is how intimate the aftermath is: there’s no sweeping score, no grand speech, just Jennifer labored on a biobed telling Ben she knew they were still connected, and his quiet word, “Always,” before she’s gone. Jake and Ben cling to each other in the infirmary, and the episode doesn’t offer catharsis so much as the numb realization that they’ve been forced to live through the same loss twice.
