2026 marks the 25th anniversary of Star Trek: Enterprise. And at this year's Trek Talks, writer and producer Garfield Reeves-Stevens shared a very interesting pitch, which would have featured the Borg Queen's origin had it been made into an episode. Reeves-Stevens said (per TrekMovie.com):

“And then the one we thought would be really intriguing was to have another Borg show, but bring in the head of Starfleet medical, which would be played by Alice Krige. Yeah, and we would see someone choosing — she, of course, goes on to become the Borg Queen — but we would see what goes through the mind of someone choosing to join the collective.”

Garfield added that season 4 showrunner Manny Coto shot down the idea as he didn’t want Enterprise to just retread older shows. The fact is, even in 2005, the Borg felt overused in Trek lore, and Voyager arguably played the entire Borg Queen concept out.

There’s also how giving the Borg an origin at all only robbed them of some mystique. Claiming that it was a Starfleet officer becoming the Queen might have played as contrived and more fan service than a logical story.

So perhaps it’s better this plotline never happened, as Enterprise should have gone for fresher threats than remaking the Trek canon. Plus, fans, who love the villain, saw plenty of the epic Borg Queen in seasons 2 and 3 of Star Trek: Picard.
