Star Trek: Enterprise's “Fight or Flight” still works 25 years later because it’s the episode where the starship Enterprise stops being a shiny new vessel and starts feeling like a fragile, very human crew facing the worst-case version of “we’re not alone out here.”

Set in the 22nd century, barely two weeks into NX‑01’s mission, and first aired on October 3, 2001, it's a small, grim story that quietly lays the foundation for Ensign Hoshi Sato (Linda Park), Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula), and Enterprise's identity before the words "Star Trek" were even included in the show's opening credits.
