Time travel with real emotional stakes

First Contact cleverly divides the story between the spaceship and the temporary launch site in Montana, alternating between the suspenseful techno-thriller of the sabotaged Enterprise and the character piece of flawed heroes rising to the situation.

Seeing Zefram Cochrane develop into his destiny gives the movie a real emotional core that never goes out of style. Cochrane is not the polished figure history remembers, but rather a genuinely human, reluctant trailblazer.
