Halloween & Trek fans, “Whatever you do, don’t step into the holosuite alone!”

Deep Space Nine fans get ready for a haunted, howling good time this Halloween season. IDW Publishing has officially announced that a new comic book series, Star Trek: Holo-Ween II, will drop this fall. However, unlike the first four Holo-Ween issues focused on the USS Enterprise-D's crew, which dropped in 2023, the new installments will take place on the science fiction franchise’s most beloved space station: DS9!

Writer Alex Segura and artist Bailie Rosenlund will handle the Deep Space 9 hauntings in Holo-Ween II, which isn’t an easy feat to follow on the heels of the outstanding storytelling Christopher Sequeira and artistry Joe Eisma provided on the original Holo-Ween. Segura said of having the opportunity to contribute to the Star Trek universe (per Nerdist):

“Writing Star Trek has been on my bucket list for as long as I’ve been a writer – probably even longer! I remember my well-worn copies of classic Trek novels lining my shelves alongside stacks of Star Trek comics. Getting to weave a tale of the final frontier aboard Deep Space 9, with one of my favorite characters, Jadzia Dax, front and center?"

Segura continued by saying:

“To call that a dream come true would be an understatement. I’m so lucky to be working with an amazing team – and Bailie’s refreshing art will help guide readers through a winding supernatural mystery that will hopefully keep them guessing – and turning the pages! Whatever you do, don’t step into the holosuite alone!”

I thoroughly enjoyed the first Holo-Ween series because of my deep love for all things Halloween, horror, and Star Trek. In fact, I can’t get the haunting imagery of a mummified Deanna Troi and Jean-Luc Picard’s Mr. Hyde out of my head to this day. The cover art for Holo-Ween II is equally haunting, but don’t take my word for it.

Like the original comic book series from 2023, Holo-Ween II will consist of four weekly issues, and the first installment drops on Wednesday, October 7. Please note that preorders for all four issues must be submitted by Monday, August 31.

"A Halloween mystery unfolds on Deep Space 9! On the eve of a high-stakes diplomatic summit, Deep Space 9 is thrown into chaos by a sudden communications blackout and a string of deeply unsettling incidents. With senior leadership called away, Worf, Dax, Odo, and Bashir must hold the station together as tensions rise among visiting dignitaries."

Live long and prosper, Trekkies!
