4. Build an escape that doesn't depend on one hero

Archer may be the captain, but getting everyone off the Seleya takes more than one person making the right calls. Reed's technical knowledge helps the team deal with the locked bulkheads, while his defensive skills give them a chance against the attacking Vulcans. Every bit of progress matters when the ship itself is becoming a death trap.

Reaching the shuttlepod should mean they're almost home free. Instead, the docking clamps refuse to release, leaving the team stranded aboard a cruiser that's edging toward destruction. After everything they've survived, the simplest part of the escape threatens to become the one they can't overcome.

Fortunately, Trip Tucker and Travis Mayweather arrive in a second shuttlepod. They fire on the docking clamps, freeing the stranded craft just in time. Without their intervention, Archer's team could have run out of time before escaping the Seleya.

Back aboard Enterprise, Phlox begins treating T’Pol for trellium-D exposure. The treatment helps, but recovery won't happen overnight. T’Pol still must regain control of her emotions and come to terms with an experience that has shaken her confidence in herself.

The escape works because everyone has a part to play. Archer makes the hard decisions, Reed helps overcome the ship's obstacles, and Tucker and Mayweather provide the final push that gets the team home. A good captain knows when to take charge, but also when survival depends on the people around him.
