5. An empty room is not enough containment

Redjac returns to Hengist’s body for a final attack. Kirk subdues him, and McCoy administers a heavy sedative to knock the administrator unconscious. With the host immobilized, the transporter provides a solution that physical confinement cannot.

Kirk orders that the non-corporeal entity, which is still in the body of Hengist, be beamed into deep space at full power with the widest possible dispersion.

The intention is to scatter Redjac's energy across the void rather than leave it a coherent form capable of finding a new host or reaching an inhabited destination. Separating the predator from its victim allows the crew to neutralize the threat permanently.

Scotty’s exoneration restores the engineer to his friends, but it cannot bring back the Argelian dancer, Kara, Lt. Tracy, or the prefect's wife, Sybo. The lighter closing mood leaves that imbalance unresolved. Their deaths deserve more weight than the satisfaction of seeing a familiar character cleared.
