Fans can read more about the new story arc ahead of Trek’s 60th anniversary panel.
Resurrected James T. Kirk and the USS Omega’s journey to Deep Space Hope began suspensefully enough in the new three-issue story arc introduced in Star Trek: The Last Starship No. 7. However, for those Trekkies who can’t wait to read more: the official synopsis for issue No. 8 has dropped ahead of IDW’s highly anticipated Star Trek 60th anniversary panel at this year’s IGN Live event.
The Last Starship No. 8’s synopsis reads as follows (per Amazon): “Seeing a solution to the tragedy of the Burn within the singularity on Deep Space Hope, Borg Queen Agnes Jurati leaves the crew of the U.S.S. Omega behind and attempts to assimilate its power."
The intriguing synopsis continues as follows:
"But she’s not alone; Kirk has followed her aboard, determined to ferret out why she and the Borg brought him back to life. Was it to be the galaxy’s savior? Or its demise? The standoff that follows is one for the ages—resistance is futile, after all… …unless you’re Captain James T. Kirk.”
I was already excited about the new issue coming out later this month. However, seeing Agnes’ image as the Borg Queen on the cover of The Last Starship No. 8 was the cherry on top for me. Now, I know many fans of the franchise had issues with Star Trek: Picard.
However, I thought Agnes (Alison Pill) was one of the show’s best original characters. And seeing her revealed as the Borg Queen in season 2’s finale, “Farewell,” was almost as riveting as Q (John de Lancie) and Jean-Luc’s (Patrick Stewart) heartwarming goodbye in that same episode.
Now, what might be even more intriguing than The Last Starship No. 8’s synopsis? Well, the publisher behind the Star Trek comic, IDW, will be attending this year’s IGN Live at the Magic Box LA in The Reef on Saturday, June 6. An official start time for IDW’s 60th anniversary Trek panel wasn’t included in the announcement (below), but IGN Live begins that day at 3 p.m. ET.
Join us at #IGNLive on Saturday, June 6 for our 60th anniversary of Star Trek panel, where the team behind IDW's newest and hottest Trek comics preview what's next for the franchise!
