And no, celebrity Star Trek fan James McAvoy is NOT in Doomsday.

Superhero fans, particularly those who follow the big-screen characters from Marvel Comics, are undoubtedly aware of X-Men actor James McAvoy’s affinity for Star Trek. The Professor X performer has brought up his love for the science fiction franchise on more than one occasion, during various interviews over the years.

However, while promoting his new film on the press tour for the California Schemin' comedy, McAvoy dished about actually speaking to the powers that be behind Star Trek and how he pitched them a young Captain Picard “one-off standalone season," in which he would play the beloved character in what he called “Mutiny on the Stargazer” (per the Happy Sad Confused podcast). Check out the video segment below:

“And we nearly did it,” McAvoy told host Josh Horowitz while flashing a huge smile. “When he [Picard] took over as captain of the Stargazer, and what actually happened.” For those fans who may be new to the fandom, Picard’s first command came aboard the Constellation-class USS Stargazer after the vessel’s captain was killed.

I think the Picard pitch would have made an intriguing Star Trek series, since McAvoy fans are already acclimated to watching him play a younger version of Patrick Stewart in the four X-Men prequel films. However, for those like me who were hoping to see McAvoy show up in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars, don’t hold your breath.

While promoting California Schemin' during a separate interview on The Rich Eisen Show, the sports authority and talk show host asked McAvoy if he might reprise the role of Professor X in the future. McAvoy replied, “Look, there’s always possibilities. I’m not involved in any way.”

“Not at all?” Eisen asked.

“No, no, no,” McAvoy emphatically replied. “No. Look, I did 10 good years in that, and it was amazing.” McAvoy went on to explain that he wasn’t interested in doing the same thing over and over again, so the chances of him playing Charles Xavier again are very slim indeed, to say nothing of him possibly showing up in Doomsday or Secret Wars.

Now, what did you think of McAvoy’s “Mutiny on the Stargazer” pitch? Were you as intrigued by the idea of a young Jean-Luc Picard standalone season, as I was? Share your thoughts and comments with us on the Redshirts Always Die Facebook and X pages.
