Star Trek icon Jonathan Frakes is showing no signs of slowing down especially behind the camera. However, he recently learned that rumors of his retirement are floating around the rumor mill, so Frakes addressed the situation while attending this year's MEGACON in Orlando, Florida. He said (via Collider):

"That was horrible! They implied on wherever it was that I was done with Star Trek, that Star Trek was done. There's no new shows out! I guarantee you if there's another new Star Trek out, I'll be first in line to direct it."

To paraphrase a famous writer that Data met once, rumors of Frakes' retirement have been extremely exaggerated!

While I appreciate Frakes' energy and his obvious love for the Trek universe, it's not easy to guess what kind of future series he might end up directing.

With Paramount canceling Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and confining it to two seasons, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds ending with five, it's rather sad that there isn't much good news for the franchise's television and streaming future, even as Trek celebrates its 60th anniversary this September.

However, as Spock said once, "There are always possibilities." There are still series pitches out there waiting for a green light, like Star Trek: United with Scott Bakula returning as Jonathan Archer as the Federation's first president. And don't forget about all the Star Trek movies in the works.

Personally, I would love to see United and have Frakes direct a few episodes! Where would you like to see the franchise go? Share your thoughts and comments with us on the Redshirts Always Die X and Facebook pages.
