The performer got the opportunity to work with Star Trek royalty.

J.J. Abrams made a bold move nearly 20 years ago when he rebooted The Original Series and recast the show’s classic characters for a new big-screen adventure: Star Trek (2009). However, Abrams also had the vision to include Leonard Nimoy’s beloved Ambassador Spock in an integral way, and co-star Karl Urban said it “was a trip” working with the acting icon while doing an interview with Variety.

“It was a wonderful experience to be a part of [those Star Trek movies],” Urban explained during the sit-down. “And really wonderful to get to meet all those guys, eventually, you know. And to work with Leonard Nimoy and see him don the pointy ears for the first time in 17 years was a trip."

Sadly, although Nimoy appeared in both Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), the legendary thespian didn’t share any time on-screen with Urban’s Dr. McCoy character.

In the first of Abrams’ big-screen Treks, Nimoy’s Spock interacts with only these main characters: James T. Kirk (Chris Pine), Scotty (Simon Pegg), Nero (Eric Bana), and finally Zachary Quinto’s younger Spock at the end of the film.

Yes, I’m sure it was a trip for Urban to share sound stages with Nimoy on those iconic sets. However, what I always appreciated most was how well Spock actors Quinto and Nimoy got along both on and off-screen.

And if you haven’t seen the hilarious Audi ad they made called “The Challenge,” in which Nimoy cleverly uses the Vulcan nerve pinch to subdue Quinto to win a friendly wager, I can’t recommend you watch it enough.
