Star Trek: Deep Space Nine guest star Kelly Lee Curtis passed away on Saturday, May 30, at the age of 69, and the Blaine County coroner has now officially certified that the actress died of natural causes, according to Us Weekly. The report also revealed that Curtis was under hospice care during the week leading up to her death, and the sister of Academy Award-winning actress, Jamie Lee Curtis, “is expected to be cremated.”

Kelly Lee Curtis made only one appearance on Deep Space Nine, but it was during the show’s 6th episode, “Captive Pursuit,” which makes her one of the series’ very first guest stars — and she didn’t disappoint.

The opening scene features her character, Miss Sarda, who was a dabo girl under the employ of Quark (Armin Shimerman). And Sarda decided to report DS9's fan-favorite Ferengi to none other than Commander Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) for sexual misconduct, which was clearly in step with the darker themes Deep Space Nine tackled.

Dabo was not unlike roulette, and those who hosted the game of chance were tasked with “distracting” those playing, so Quark could turn a profit. However, the contracts which Sarda and the other girls signed gave Quark license to make unwanted “sexual advances,” as Sisko put it. “It was part of the job,” Sarda explains as she privately made her complaint to DS9’s commanding officer.

Sarda insisted she did her job as host of the gambling game, but the dabo girl made it plain to Quark for him to “keep his Ferengi knuckles to himself!” The misunderstanding came about because Quark had hidden the provision deep in the contract’s fine print, which Sarda admits she should have read more carefully. However, after learning of Quark’s hidden agenda, Sisko promised Sarda that she and the other employees would NOT have to succumb to his sexual advances.

Curtis holds her own with the show’s superstar, Brooks, in the riveting scene to open the storyline, which I personally think would have been just as intriguing as the episode’s hunt-centric, primary plot that revolved around an entirely different character, Tosk. Unfortunately, that is the last we see of Sarda, and the episode doesn’t even include a scene in which Sisko confronts Quark.

To remember Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s co-star, Kelly Lee Curtis, (per Wood River Chapel), it has been requested that "in lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in to the
Idaho State Historical Society.”
