Kelly Lee was among one of Deep Space Nine’s first guest stars.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine guest star Kelly Lee Curtis passed away at the age of 69 on Saturday, May 30, according to a social media post uploaded by her Oscar-winning sister, Jamie Lee Curtis. The Halloween star and horror genre's renowned Scream Queen wrote the following on Instagram:
“A warm aloha to my older sister, Kelly Lee Curtis. She passed away this morning. In her home. In nature. At peace. She was my first friend and lifelong confidant. She was jaw droppingly beautiful, and a talented actress. She played a mean game of hearts, collected turtles, loved her family, nature, music, thrifting, travel, Facebook, and Pokemon Go. She was proud of her Danish roots and Hungarian Jewish ancestry and was a devoted American patriot.”
Curtis' heartwarming post continued as follows:
“She will be remembered for her loving generosity, fierce opinions, endless curiosity, unique style, and her powdered, almond, crescent cookies at Christmas, hence her name, Auntie Cookie. Kelly always signed off any message or fare thee well with a Hungarian blessing…’Isten Veled, God is with you.’ Isten Veled to my sister of the sun and the moon, my Tai. I'll see you on down the line.”
Kelly Lee Curtis has the honor of being among the very first guest stars to appear on Deep Space Nine. Curtis portrayed Miss Sarda in the season 1 episode, “Captive Pursuit,” which aired for the first time over 30 years ago on Jan. 31, 1993.
Sarda was an alien who worked for Quark (Armin Shimerman) on DS9. Although Curtis’ part was a small one, the actress enjoyed an incredible career working in Hollywood just as her sister, Jamie Lee did. In fact, many Star Trek fans may not be aware that Kelly Lee also appeared in one of Jamie Lee’s biggest hits, Trading Places (1983), as Muffy.
Kelly Lee Curtis, of course, is the daughter of Tinseltown’s royal couple Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh. However, she didn’t star in as many television shows and films as her sister and parents did. Kelly Lee’s most prolific work came on the TV series The Sentinel, in which she played Lt. Carolyn Plummer.
Sister Jamie Lee starred in the classic horror slasher Halloween and many of its sequels, but her sister is best known for her own appearance in the genre, starring in Dario Argento's The Devil's Daughter (1991) with The Pink Panther series alum, Herbert Lom. Kelly Lee also appeared in another holiday-themed movie, Thanksgiving Day.
