For the first time in a long time, the future of Star Trek on the big screen is up in the air, and fans must patiently wait for the projects in development to hit cinemas. The Kelvin Timeline movies have been successful, but have been put on hold, and the film series is now on the sidelines while shows boldly explore new decades and new crews.

A standard "Star Trek 4" with a new enemy of the week isn't enough anymore. The next movie needs to feel like an event that brings together fans of all ages and stays true to Trek's vast canon. The best way to do that isn’t yet another reboot, or even just continuing the Kelvin adventures on their own.
