Is Star Trek: Khan canon or not? Co-writer Kirsten Beyer sets the record straight.

Kirsten Beyer and David Mack wrote the wonderfully scripted Star Trek: Khan podcast that just concluded its amazing nine-episode run last Monday (Nov. 3). However, the question of whether the audio drama’s content, which explores the time period of Khan Noonien Singh’s exile on Ceti Alpha V, is canon or not was still up in the air eight weeks ago.

But during a new interview on the All Access Star Trek podcast, one of the co-writers set the record straight after sharing some new information. Beyer said (via TrekMovie.com)

“Okay, look, here’s what I can tell you [...] because I have had a few conversations, right? There is nobody who comes along and like waves a scepter and dubs a thing canon. What I can tell you is that for the people currently working on Star Trek, this will be treated as canon. Meaning it will not be overwritten, contradicted, and will be, when possible, incorporated into future storytelling. So, that’s what I’ve been told.”

Star Trek: Khan absolutely deserves to be canon, but more than that, it should have been produced as streaming series or film. This is the type of Star Trek content Trekkies would love — and frankly deserve — to watch on their favorite digital devices, or, better yet, in a fun, ruckus big-screen environment with likeminded fans in a shared experience.

All due respect to lackluster Treks like the forgettable Section 31 and season 3 of Strange New Worlds — in the words of Khan himself — "I am better... at everything." And so is his podcast.
