1. Captain Sulu meets Dr. Rosalind Lear

The framing device for the show takes place three years after Captain James T. Kirk presumably died aboard the USS Enterprise-B in Star Trek Generations. Historian Rosalind Lear (Sonya Cassidy) lays out her theory to the Federation council that Kirk knew Ceti Alpha VI was unstable and sentenced Khan and his people to death by exiling them on the neighboring planet of Ceti Alpha V.

This obviously upset Captain Hikaru Sulu of the USS Excelsior, who argued that the Khan he knew was a monster and there’s no way Kirk would have sent all those people to their deaths. Sulu and Lear's argument played out in front of the council. However, it was Sulu who ultimately suggested that he take Lear to Ceti Alpha V to find more of the logs Khan's wife, Marla McGivers, may have left behind.

The challenge of doing this in live-action is that you’d have to either recast Sulu or use de-aging CGI to make George Takei look younger. Yet it would be fantastic to see Sulu hold back his rage as Lear insults Kirk’s memory and champions Khan as being misunderstood. Sulu's personal connection to those events would fire up the encounter even more on television.
