4. Khan crushes Marla's communicator

Given her second thoughts, Marla reveals a communicator that she smuggled off the USS Enterprise and then tries to make contact the ship, which is too far out of range by that point. Khan then finds her and a very tense conversation follows.

Khan crushes the communicator in his hand! The sound effects for that moment are good, yet you can imagine a camera zooming in on the communicator, showing how effortlessly Khan destroys it and then pans to Marla’s stricken face.

It would be a terrific image as it seals Marla’s choice for good, and she realizes there’s no going back. It sets up the chemistry between the pair that will lead to a later love. The bitter irony is that Khan wrecked what could have been a needed lifeline in the future once he destroyed the communicator.
