Star Trek: Khan 'Magical Thinking' needs to be adapted into a TV episode (and this is why)

Marla’s phaser, the Ceti eel queen, and Khan and Marla’s wedding make “Magical Thinking” a natural fit for a visual Star Trek story.

5. Khan marries Marla

The wedding gives “Magical Thinking” its emotional payoff. Earlier in the episode, Marla challenges Khan’s rigid attitude toward emotional customs and communal rituals, which he dismisses as “magical thinking.”

Marla argues that people need ways to process grief and remain connected, especially after the losses the colony has suffered. After the Ceti eel threat is neutralized and Marla reveals her pregnancy, Khan proposes. The episode then ends with their wedding ceremony.

A TV adaptation could end on the ceremony without suggesting that Ceti Alpha V’s problems have disappeared. Instead, it would show a rare moment of hope: Khan choosing connection and community instead of isolation. For viewers who know where Khan and Marla’s story eventually leads, that happiness would carry even more weight.
