4. Khan nearly chooses war
The strongest dramatic material from "Imagination's Limits" comes when Khan prepares to attack the Elboreans. His reasoning is not cartoonishly cruel: his people are stranded on a dying planet, the alien newcomers outnumber them, and their technology could be the only route to survival. Still, the episode makes clear that Khan’s instinct is to control the unknown through military force.
A TV adaptation could turn the planning of the assault into a tense, character-focused sequence. Khan assembles armed squads, the settlers debate whether to fight or make contact, and Marla challenges the narrowness of his thinking.
Marla's argument reaches beyond tactical caution. She reminds him that humanity itself was transformed by peaceful first contact after Zefram Cochrane’s warp flight, and tells Khan she is saddened by the limits of his imagination.
That line gives the episode its title and its thesis. Khan is brilliant, but brilliance is not the same as wisdom. Watching him prepare for violence while Marla asks him to imagine another future would make the eventual choice far more compelling than a simple battle scene.
