7. 'Original Sin' (Episode 8)
The penultimate episode skims over the timeline with Khan’s now five-year-old daughter, Kali, living amid a ruined world. Hearing Khan as a doting father is striking, even as it brings up the question of what happened to her. He's still Khan at heart, planning a “survival of the fittest” treatment for the Elbs, while some of the Augments are growing angrier about their circumstances, undermining Khan's power.
A prominent twist has Khan discovering the truth behind Ceti Alpha V’s destruction. Learning the Elbs inadvertently played a part in the planet's premature explosion is a huge betrayal in Khan's eyes, matching the anger he will soon harbor for Captain Kirk. This episode is an excellent showcase for Khan’s twisted mind, the influence his daughter has over him, and this all sets up the big finale.
