2. 'Imagination’s Limits' (Episode 5)
This was the episode fans had waited for, but what they got wasn’t expected. Ceti Alpha VI explodes, and the disaster will eventually bring about the end of Khan’s "paradise" and happiness. The audio effects of the cataclysm add to the chaos of Khan facing an enemy he can't defeat, only survive. The story then throws an unexpected wrinkle into the mix in the form of the Elboreans, a telepathic alien race whose ship crashes on the planet.
Their presence reveals the dichotomy in Khan, who thinks asking for aid is a sign of weakness and is mistrustful of others. Khan does accept some help from them in finding water, but there’s also his pride and already blaming Kirk for this mess, elements that will obviously grow over time. After this, the story gets much darker as this episode is the turning point and the beginning of Khan’s end.
