5. Kirk rescues Spock from the volcano
In J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness, Captain Kirk's urge to defend his crew conflicts with Starfleet's highest law, the Prime Directive. Instead of showing the inhabitants of Nibiru the USS Enterprise, the "right" thing to do is to let Mr. Spock perish in a volcano poised to explode on a pre-warp world.
Instead, Kirk orders the ship to make a risky rescue from the seas. This saves Spock, but the planet's people are scared when a starship flies above them like a god.
Kirk loses command and is chastised by Christopher Pike for breaking the rules immediately. However, his willingness to risk his reputation, command, and even the law to save a friend fully defines his character in the Kelvin Timeline. It's chaotic, flawed, and human, like Prime Kirk.
