While Star Trek: Lower Decks is ending, the cast is far from done with the franchise.

Season five is underway for Star Trek: Lower Decks and in just a few short months, the final episode will premiere on Paramount+. Fans will say goodbye to the bombastic cartoon that turned the Star Trek mythos on it's head, for better or worse. While the series may not have been a monumental hit for the streaming service or the franchise as a whole, it did cement itself with a fandom that loves the show.

The fans who loved the show, loved it entirely and supported it endlessly. That type of support really resonated with the cast and crew of the show, and it's why the show will head off into the sunset with such heavy hearts. While the adventures of the characters are far from over, a new comic book featuring the likes of Brad Boimler, Beckett Mariner and the rest of the show's character.

Yet, if the crew has their way, fans may not have to miss out on these characters for long. Speaking to TrekMovie.com, Jack Quaid, the voice of Brad Boimler, echoed sentiments made by Will Cordero (Sam Rutherford), that this isn't the end for them. If they have their way, this will be more of a "pause" on the crew playing their characters, saying;

"And yeah, like Eugene says, we were trying to think of this as more of a pause and less of a goodbye, because we just love playing these characters. We’ll do it till we’re dead. And that’s a promise."

While the takeaway on the show over its five seasons has differed, the talents of the crew can't be overstated. They compiled a remarkable cast of comedic actors and rising stars and put their best foot forward. It would be a shame not to capitalize on these actors and actresses in a different series. Maybe one more in line with the core values of Star Trek.

It'd be great to see these characters again, but a bit more serious (though still themselves) and in a show that better reflects what a traditional Star Trek show should be like.
