Star Trek: Lower Decks reveals Naomi Wildman's future
Warning: This post contains spoilers from Star Trek: Lower Decks season 5, episode 1, "Dos Cerritos."
The last time we saw Naomi Wildman, who was portrayed by Scarlett Pomers on Star Trek: Voyager, she was still a child who Neelix [Ethan Phillips] was tucking into bed at night. As the only child to be born and raised on Voyager [Tom Paris' and B'Elanna Torres' daughter was born on the ship before Voyager returned to Earth], she garnered a lot of attention as no one had anticipated Voyager being away from home long enough for children to be born aboard. But Ensign Samantha Wilder [Nancy Hower] was already pregnant when Voyager was lost in the Delta Quadrant, and Naomi Wildman became a part of the Voyager family with Pomers appearing in ninteen episodes during the series' seven year run.
Since Voyager ended, Naomi hasn't really even been mentioned since then, and no one knew what her future held or what became of her after the starship made it back to Earth. (An alternate timeline in season seven of Voyager did reveal that Naomi had joined Starfleet; however, that was never made canon.) Star Trek: Lower Decks' first episode of its fifth and final season changed all that.
As Brad Boimler [Jack Quaid] was scrolling through the "30 under 30" article in Fleet Magazine, we see Naomi's name come up as one of the Honorable Mentions. That would mean she was in Starfleet as of 2381. [via Screenrant] Perhaps this will mean that we'll see Naomi in future series, but, if not, at least we know that she chose to follow in her mother's footsteps.
It's nice to see these little mentions of past crew members, especially the ones we thought we'd never hear about again. Some, we've even forgotten, but it's great to be reminded that there were other characters who played important parts in the series even if they weren't in a starring role.
