10. David’s death | The Search for Spock

The forces of Klingon Commander Kruge kill Admiral Kirk's son, David Marcus, who was introduced in The Wrath of Khan, violently on the Genesis Planet. In The Search for Spock, David bravely comes to Saavik and young Spock's defense, charging a Klingon warrior while the crew of the USS Enterprise is helpless to intervene. And then David gets stabbed in with a d’k tahg knife.

Kirk’s child is dead, and with David’s death, the death of possibilities, the death of a future connection that will never be. The impact is enhanced by Kirk’s anger in the scene: “You Klingon bastard, you’ve killed my son!” It’s not often you get to see the unflappable skipper struck down by personal grief.
