It still holds up today as one of the best Star Trek episodes ever, and this is why.

2. Data uses the Vulcan neck pinch on Sela

While this episode does have its dark moments, the writers knew that we Trekkies would probably look for funny callbacks to TOS, such as the famous Vulcan neck pinch. Data (Brent Spiner) uses the technique on Sela (Denise Crosby), a human/Romulan commander with parents from a different timeline, including an alternate Tasha Yar, who was Sela's mother.

This is one of the best moments of the episode, and I'd give anything to ask Spiner about Data's motivations because that android stopped and considered his options before using the neck pinch on Sela!

Did he want to see if he could do it? Was it because Ambassador Spock was watching and Data wanted to impress him? Sela crashes to the floor (could you not have lowered her down gently to the floor, Data?) and Data's smile when Spock comments, "Not bad!" says it all for me!
