Star Trek's “The Conscience of the King” first aired on December 8, 1966, and it still feels like one of TOS' quietest, most haunting episodes: a Shakespeare-soaked meditation on guilt, identity, and whether Captain James T. Kirk is hunting a criminal or chasing his own ghosts.

The story embraces theatrical melodrama on purpose, and six decades later, its restraint and ambiguity make it more compelling than ever. With that in mind, the following are five reasons "The Conscience of the King" is still worth watching today.
