Star Trek: The Original Series' episode “The Enemy Within” still matters 60 years later because it turns a transporter mishap into a sharp, sometimes uncomfortable argument that you can’t be a whole person, or a good captain, without your darker impulses.

First airing on October 6, 1966, it’s an early TOS hour that plays like Trek’s own Jekyll-and-Hyde bottle episode, letting William Shatner chew scenery in a way that serves the story. With that in mind, the following are five reasons "The Enemy Within" is still worth watching today.
