3. The Romulan commander (Joanne Linville: "The Enterprise Incident")
The Romulan military seems to be an equal-opportunity employer as Kirk and Spock realize the commander of the ship they plan to steal a cloaking device from is a woman. The Romulan commander is capable and intelligent but ultimately falls for Spock's warm attitude and dark eyes, a false romantic ploy. However, who amongst us Spock lovers can blame her, especially when he calls her whispered name, which we never discover, rare and beautiful.
The Romulan commander realizes the ploy. However, when Spock is suddenly being beamed back aboard the Enterprise , she gets caught up in the transporter beam! To her credit, she still tells Sub-Commander Tal to destroy the Enterprise, but Scotty gets the cloaking device working just in time (as usual) to prevent the attack.
I truly hope the Romulan commander wasn't executed for the loss of the cloak and her less-than-military behavior with Spock. Perhaps Tal, who is obviously loyal to her, spoke up in her stead when they returned to Romulus. Maybe they exiled themselves and dodged the Romulan army the rest of their lives. Star Trek: Romulus, anyone?
Romulan characters would continue to appear in Star Trek: The Next Generation and in many other franchise series and movies, including The Final Frontier, The Undiscovered Country, and Nemesis.
