The fate of Star Trek films & TV
Obviously, since Paramount Skydance acquired Warner Bros. Discovery, future Star Trek projects should be unaffected by the merger. In other words, the three films announced in 2025 should all still be boldly going forward. And now, the trio of movies, will have the backing of one of the most powerful media companies in the world, which should do nothing but bolster budgets behind future Treks.
The Paramount acquisition of WBD also means that streaming series already in the books like seasons 4 and 5 of Strange New Worlds, plus season 2 of Starfleet Academy shouldn’t be affected by the move, except for in the case of where fans will be able to watch and consume this content.
Today (March 2), the CEO of Paramount, David Ellison, announced that HBO Max and Paramount+ will officially be combining (via The Hollywood Reporter). Ellison said during an investor call, “We do plan to put the two services together, which today gives us a little over 200 million direct to consumer subscribers. We think that really positions us to compete with the leaders in the space.”
