Rewatch five of Captain Jean-Luc Picard’s best TNG episodes.

Star Trek’s beloved Sir Patrick Stewart will be remembered in a five-episode television marathon featuring some of Captain Jean-Luc Picard’s most memorable adventures from The Next Generation. The special event, which can be seen on the Heroes & Icons TV Network, begins at 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, and the full schedule is slated as follows:

8 p.m. ET/PT “The Inner Light”

9 p.m. “The Measure of a Man”

10 p.m. “The Drumhead”

11 p.m. “Darmok”

12 a.m. “Tapestry”

Stewart died at the age of 86 on Wednesday, Oct. 28. As sad as the news was, though, I’m delighted to see so many celebrating the legendary actor’s legacy with tributes online. I am particularly excited about the Heroes & Icons TV Network event because it will give those who might be new to the Star Trek fandom an opportunity to see two of Captain Picard’s must-see episodes.

If you’re only able to tune in for two of The Next Generation installments honoring Stewart, be sure to catch “The Inner Light” and “The Measure of a Man.” The first, which is the famous flute episode, will leave even the most hardened Star Trek newcomers in tears, as Picard is given the opportunity to live an ordinary life away from the USS Enterprise-D.

The second TNG episode, “The Measure of a Man,” reveals just how loyal and dedicated Captain Picard is to his friends and crewmembers, regardless of what obstacles Starfleet regulations might throw at the Enterprise commander.

Here, in one of my personal favorite stories from The Next Generation, Picard defends Data (Brent Spiner) when the question of the android’s humanity threatens the Lt. Commander’s very existence.

The other Next Gen episodes featured in the marathon are also worth watching, particularly “Tapestry,” which is essentially Star Trek’s homage to A Wonderful Life. Only, it is Q (John de Lancie) who is giving Picard a taste of what might have been had the Enterprise-D captain not been seriously injured by a Nausicaan during his Starfleet Academy days.

The special Patrick Stewart marathon on Heroes & Icons TV Network is available to stream through either Frndly TV or Philo. However, those Star Trek fans who have a television subscription through a cable provider and want to watch H&I’s tribute to the beloved Captain Jean-Luc Picard actor will need to check your local listings for availability in your specific area.
