“I learned so much from him.”

Star Trek fans and far beyond are still mourning the loss of Sir Patrick Stewart. The iconic actor of the stage and screen was 86 years old when he passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 28. And his fellow X-Men castmate Hugh Jackman remembered his dear friend in a touching Instagram post (below), which included a photo of the two gentlemen together on a darkened backstage and another from the set of 2017's Logan.

Jackman wrote: “We lost one of the greats of stage and screen today. And, in my book, a tremendous friend and man. I learned so much from him. I will miss you, Patrick Stewart, all of my days.”

Jackman and Stewart’s first on-screen collaboration as Marvel Comics characters Wolverine and Professor X respectively came during the 2000 debut of the X-Men theatrical franchise. Altogether, the Star Trek legend and Jackman appeared in seven X-Men movies together.

For my money, though, Stewart and Jackman’s best cinematic X-Men collaboration was in 2017’s Logan — it’s hard to believe that was nearly 10 years ago. Unfortunately (SPOILER ALERT), both of my favorite Mutants died in the third act of that must-see film.

What’s even sadder, though, is the fact that Stewart and Jackman never teamed up in the Star Trek universe. I always envisioned Captain Jean-Luc Picard going up against a clever and dangerous Jackman shrouded in either Klingon or Romulan makeup. Unfortunately, my musings on what could have been will never be realized now.
