“A tribute to a great man and beloved Captain. ❤️”
Sir Patrick Stewart’s death stunned the Star Trek family when news of his passing spread across the internet on Wednesday, Oct. 28, and many people are continuing to paying tribute to the Captain Jean-Luc Picard actor online. And another beloved on-screen Trek commander, Kate Mulgrew, remembered Stewart in a touching Instagram post, featuring an image Sir Stewart, which fans can view below.
“A tribute to a great man and beloved Captain,” Mulgrew, who first portrayed Kathryn Janeway on Star Trek: Voyager, wrote. "❤️ Sir Patrick's family has requested donations to Johns Hopkins Alzheimer's research, supporting the efforts to solve a disease you all know is close to my heart and has deeply affected so many. Please give to this research if you are able. ✨🍀 -Kate.”
In addition to the heartwarming tribute Mulgrew shared online, the actress also spoke about the first time she crossed paths with Stewart in an interview on The Late Late Show. Mulgrew recalled how she’d only been portraying Captain Janeway for a couple of weeks when Stewart decided to visit Voyager’s bridge set.
Mulgrew then told The Late Late Show's host Patrick Kielty that Stewart enjoyed a cup of coffee, which is, of course, Janeway’s beverage of choice, and he gave the Voyager actress some sage advice that helped prepare her to become one of Star Trek’s most beloved performers.
Mulgrew also mentioned just how proud Stewart said he was of playing Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation. And, if you’d like to watch the actress’ appearance on The Late Late Show and hear her tell the complete story, be sure to check out the short video below.
