“He’s gone. My friend, my captain....”

Sir Patrick Stewart’s death rocked the Star Trek family to its core, but the loss is especially a difficult one for those who worked with him and loved him so very much. And watching Stewart’s Next Generation and Picard costar Marina Sirtis react to his passing will leave fans feeling even more emotional. Check out the video below, via Sirtis’ Instagram account, but have a box of tissues standing by.

Stewart and Sirtis joined the Star Trek family together as Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Counselor Deanna Troi respectively when The Next Generation debuted on television in 1987. The two fan-favorite characters enjoyed a special friendship and bond, which was further expanded upon when they tearfully reunited during the streaming series Picard in 2020.

“It’s just too much, it's just too much,” Sirtis rightly says during the video, too, as she refers to losing Stewart right on the heels of the death of The Original Series actor Walter Koenig. And I feel exactly the same way. It was bad enough having to read about our beloved Pavel Chekov actor passing, but then to lose our captain…

“I really can’t imagine a world without him in it,” Marina cries over the loss of Stewart in the poignant and teary tribute video […] "I don’t know how I’m going to get over this. Patrick, I loved you with all my heart.”

It’s a difficult time for all of Star Trek fans, but I implore you all to reach out through social media to those like Sirtis who have been hit hardest by Koenig and Stewart's deaths.

It only takes a moment to leave a few kind words to show your support on their social media channels, and we are a family after all. For more Star Trek content and to share your fondest memories of both Walter Koenig and Patrick Stewart, please visit the Redshirts Always Die Facebook and X pages.
