“As the police investigate, the veneer of friendship begins to crack…”
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' actor Paul Wesley will once again share the screen with his co-star from The Vampire Diaries, Nina Dobrev, in Hulu’s upcoming psychological thriller You Deserve to Know (per Deadline). The project is an adaptation of writer Aggie Blum Thompson's 2025 novel, and the synopsis reads as follows, courtesy of the author's official website:
“Neighbors Gwen, Aimee, and Lisa share more than playdates and coffee mornings on their tranquil street in East Bethesda. They confide their deepest secrets, navigate the challenges of motherhood together, and provide a support system that seems unbreakable. But when Gwen’s husband is found murdered after one of their weekly Friday night dinner, the peaceful quiet of their cul-de-sac shatters.”
The synopsis for You Deserve to Know, which is being adapted by Brian Tanen, continues as follows:
“The seemingly idyllic world of the three close-knit mom friends becomes a web of deception, betrayal, and revenge. As the police investigate, the veneer of friendship begins to crack, revealing hidden tensions, clandestine affairs, and long-buried jealousies among the three women. With suspicions mounting and the neighborhood gripped by fear, Gwen, Aimee, and Lisa must confront the chilling truth about their husbands, and the sinister undercurrents in their own friendship.”
Wesley will play the character of Scott while the role of his neighbor Aimee belongs to Dobrev. The Vampire Diaries co-stars also serve as executive producers on You Deserve to Know, which has not yet received an official release date.
Much like Star Trek, I’m utterly fascinated — thank you, Mr. Spock — with creatures of the night, so, of course, I loved The Vampire Diaries, even though Elena (Dobrev) ended up with the other Salvatore brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder), and not Stefan (Wesley).
I’m certainly excited to watch Wesley and Dobrev reunite onscreen, given their electric chemistry as both lovers and friends in The Vampire Diaries. However, in addition to fans getting what they want, this project was a genius move by the actors, their respective representation, and the other You Deserve to Know executives.
Any Star Trek fan can tell you that regardless of the convention, those in attendance absolutely lose their minds virtually every time Wesley takes the stage to promote Strange New Worlds — thanks in large part to his role as Stefan in The Vampire Diaries.
I will be stunned if You Deserve to Know isn’t a runaway hit after reuniting TVD’s stars for the upcoming psychological thriller. Hulu really sank their teeth — pun most definitely intended — into something very special here with this adaptation.

Live long and prosper, Trekkies!
