“Some characters remain while others have been switched out.”

Star Trek: Picard’s series finale, “The Last Generation,” debuted over three years ago, and, ever since, fans have patiently waited for the further adventures of the USS Enterprise-G. Well, writer Christopher Cantwell is obliging fans with a new comic book series dropping this fall titled simply, Star Trek.

And while Seven of Nine returns as the captain of the Enterprise-G, formerly known as the USS Titan-A, Cantwell didn’t want Star Trek to feel like a “fourth season” of Picard — even though he was careful to be respectful of what came before his comic books. Cantwell said in an interview with SYFY Wire: “I wanted to be respectful of the third season of Picard and leave room should that story ever continue on the screen."

Cantwell continued by saying: "But I also did not want our book to feel like a mere sequel or a ‘fourth season.’ I wanted it to be its own original story, so some characters remain while others have been switched out.”

Most fans have been hoping against hope for the Star Trek: Legacy streaming series which would have followed up on the events and characters featured in the third season of Picard. Sadly, the Trek fandom — myself included — will have to settle for Seven’s captaincy aboard the Enterprise-G playing out in the panels of Cantwell’s new comic book series which will feature the artwork of Dennis Menheere.

I plan to read the comics mostly because I’m such a Seven of Nine fan. How about you? Do you intend on picking up a copy of IDW Publishing’s Star Trek (2026) when drops on Wednesday, Sept. 23? Share your thoughts and comments with us on the Redshirts Always Die Facebook and X pages.

Live long and prosper, Trekkies!
