One famous Star Trek name isn’t happy about the end of the Prodigy series.
While Kate Mulgrew is famous for portraying Kathryn Janeway on Star Trek: Voyager, she reprised the role in the animated series Star Trek: Prodigy — a fun show in which Janeway (both as a hologram and the real person) aided a young team of aliens who found and stole the USS Protostar.
However, the series was unceremoniously canceled at the end of its second season and removed from Netflix on Jan. 1 of this year. Talking to TrekNews.net at the Starfleet Academy premiere in New York City, Mulgrew (just like Janeway) minced no words on how she felt about the show ending too soon. The actress said:
"I think Dan, the Hageman brothers, are extraordinary. They're geniuses. And the fact it was huddled around like that, really, I found deeply upsetting. But we're not going to go down that rabbit hole. Why? There's no end to it."
Many will agree with Mulgrew’s feelings, as Prodigy was just scraping the surface of what could have been offered with the characters exploring more of the galaxy. It was also a joy hearing Mulgrew as Janeway again, and both Hologram Janeway and Admiral Janeway could have continued being strong mentors in season 3. It seems unlikely the show can ever be revived, but Mulgrew’s anger seems justified at how this great Star Trek show was cut short far too soon.
