This should be one of the corporation's New Year's resolutions.
The newly merged Paramount Skydance is in the unique position to expand the Star Trek universe in ways which would make the corporation a modern-day media success and appease the fans at the same time. In fact, resurrecting this animated adventure is a no-brainer because Star Trek: Prodigy was such a hit with fans and critics alike.
Streaming success or possibly more is sure to follow if Prodigy is saved from its inexplicable 2024 cancellation, and, frankly, I still can't believe the cord was cut on such an engaging and entertaining series. Even star Kate Mulgrew, who portrayed Hologram Janeway and Admiral Janeway during the show’s two-year run is still perplexed at Prodigy’s mind-boggling end. The beloved Star Trek: Voyager mainstay said while attending this year’s Trek to New Jersey convention (via TrekMovie.com):
“I love Prodigy […] Because this is genius stuff, Prodigy. Kevin and Dan Hageman created something that’s never been seen before and for an audience made for Star Trek: children. What do they do? They pulled it. I’m really furious about that. When you pour your heart and soul into something, and they call it like that in this industry, I don’t like it. Because it doesn’t make any sense.”
Mulgrew, who even had the opportunity to portray Mirror Janeway in the must-see Prodigy season 2 episode “Cracked Mirror,” continued by saying:
“The whole world loved Prodigy. Why do they have it in stasis, to what end, when thousands, millions of young minds could be learning what we know and sharing it with their mothers, and their mothers with their mothers, the whole thing is just, I suppose, too elegant. The universe is just too elegant that way. I suppose. Mad.” (Continued...)
