While the new Deep Space 9-set comic book Stargazers: A Star Trek Story continues to find its audience, the Paramount Skydance Corporation and WEBTOON already have plans to warp-speed forward with another webcomic this summer. Titled Recollection, the upcoming comic book series promises to have a much darker tone than the young adult romance, Stargazers.

“Set in a later timeline inspired by Star Trek: The Next Generation and Voyager, Recollection is a gripping mystery that follows a crew who awaken on a Federation starship without any of their memories,” (per Star Trek’s official Instagram account). While an exact release date hasn’t been revealed yet, summer's Recollection will center around a woman with amnesia, who awakes to find herself with six other passengers on a Federation vessel (via a WEBTOON press release).

It sounds to me like Recollection is also taking a page out of Star Trek: Prodigy’s playbook. Just as the USS Protostar featured Hologram Janeway to assist the ship’s ragtag crew, a Holopilot named JAID will be one of those among the eight characters teased for this summer’s upcoming webcomic. The Head of United States Content at WEBTOON Entertainment, Ryan Lee, said (per ScreenRant):

Star Trek is one of the most influential storytelling universes ever created, built on optimism, curiosity, and a belief in what humanity can become. With Stargazers and Recollection, we’re honoring that legacy, exploring new corners of the universe through our vertical-scroll webcomic format — where every scroll can heighten tension, deepen relationships, and bring readers closer to the story."

I’m most intrigued by Recollection because the young woman with amnesia will seemingly be recognized by a Vulcan once the vessel reaches “a remote space outpost,” per the same press release. And then there’s the dark character twist, which clearly sets it apart from the YA-themed Stargazers: “most of them are among the Federation’s most wanted, bound for a reeducation facility.”

Recollection is written by New York Times best-selling author Sam Maggs, and the artwork is provided by Kisai Entertainment.
