2. Artwork makes darkness work
Kisai Entertainment’s artwork continues to make excellent use of WEBTOON’s vertical format, particularly once the protagonist crosses into the restricted engineering section.
The transition from the ship’s familiar Federation-style corridors into near-total darkness creates an immediate change in mood, turning a recognizably Star Trek environment into something more ominous.
It is a simple visual contrast, but it makes the engineering area feel less like a routine Starfleet workspace and more like a deliberately concealed part of the ship.
The flashlight sequence is especially effective because it narrows both the protagonist’s and the reader’s field of vision. Readers only see what she can see, which turns the descent below decks into an exercise in visual suspense.
The darkness is not just a backdrop; it becomes part of the storytelling, encouraging readers to look closely at each new panel for a clue or possible threat.
The episode’s final reveal is also well staged. The discovery of five occupied stasis pods creates a sharp visual payoff after the confined, shadowy exploration that precedes it. It is an image that immediately reframes the protagonist’s understanding of her situation.
The woman with amnesia thought she was alone with an evasive hologram, only to find that other lives, and likely other secrets, are literally hidden beneath her feet.
