“Something More Important” advances Recollection by tying its character tension directly to the central mystery. Remy’s suspicion of Accel complicates an already distrustful group, but Early’s decision to secretly pursue the hidden terminal proves that she is no longer willing to wait for anyone else’s plan.
JAID complicates that plan when she catches Early leaving the others behind. Rather than exposing her, the holopilot chooses to keep her secret and says she senses a “kindred spirit” in Early. The remark is awkwardly funny for Early, but it also suggests that JAID recognizes something important about her.
JAID’s programming prevents her from openly sharing information with unauthorized passengers, making her partial warning about Remy, and the interruption before she can explain it, more significant.
Early continues toward Engineering, where she finally activates the concealed terminal and inserts the isolinear chip. At first, nothing happens. Then the computer responds: “Welcome back. I’ve been waiting for you.”
The final exchange shifts the mystery in a major way. Early’s shocked question, “How long has it been?” suggests that her lost time reaches further back than the group’s awakening aboard the Good Hope. The terminal does not merely recognize her; it implies that she has used it before and may have a deeper role in the ship’s secrets than she remembers.
