Rick Berman is one of those names synonymous with the Star Trek franchise. From The Next Generation to Voyager and beyond, he's one of the most well-known executive producers in the Trek universe. And now, Brian Volk-Weiss, the founder of The Nacelle Company, has teased a new interview with Berman for an upcoming installment on what many believe will be a follow-up to The Center Seat: 55 Years of Star Trek documentary, and there's plenty to ponder!
Volk-Weiss posted the following on Instagram and wrote: "Had another incredible interview with Rick Berman for an unnamed series we’ve been working on for a lil while! And to that point, we will have an update on what the series is and where you can watch it relatively soon!! Oh and wait till you hear what Berman told us!"
Volk-Weiss also included several pictures of Berman from the interview, and while they don't reveal much in the way of teasers, the tags in the post may hint at what they discussed: two fan-favorite series, Voyager and Deep Space Nine.
With the 60th anniversary of Star Trek approaching in September, it's exciting to consider what Berman and Volk-Weiss might have in store for us. Are future episodes of The Center Seat truly in production, or is the new "series" he teased a companion piece or something completely experimental? Considering the scope of Volk-Weiss's work and his willingness to experiment with different tones, it's almost impossible to guess at the content!
Volk-Weiss has produced several TV series that cover pop culture shows, toys, and movies, such as The Toys That Made Us. So, I would also love to see a series that specifically covers the history of Star Trek collectibles, how merchandising for the show began, and interviews with collectors. I believe that would be a fun companion piece to The Center Seat, and with all the new Trek action figures coming out from the Nacelle toy line this year, there's plenty to discuss!
One thing is for sure: Volk-Weiss sure knows how to tease his productions and keep us fans interested in the future of the franchise. As for what Rick Berman had to say, I truly hope it's some good news, especially after the cancellation of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.
